From June 4 to 6, 2025, the 11th Congress of the French Society for Angiogenesis (SFA)<\/a> took place in Autrans (Is\u00e8re), bringing together researchers, clinicians, and PhD students to discuss the latest advances in vascular biology. On this occasion, L\u00e9a Pechtimaldjian<\/a>, a third<\/sup>-year PhD candidate at BRIC, presented her thesis work \u2014 and was awarded Best Oral Presentation of the congress. <\/p>\n\n

A Well-Deserved Distinction for a BRIC Doctoral Student<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Under the supervision of Fran\u00e7ois Moisan<\/a>, L\u00e9a is part of Team 5: “Translational Research in Skin Cancer and Rare Skin Diseases” (TRIO2)<\/a>, co-led by Marie Beylot-Barry<\/a>, Laurence Bresson-Bepoldin<\/a>, and Hamid-Reza Rezvani<\/a>. Her presentation, titled: \u201cTelocytes: a novel actor in the regression of tumor vascularization in infantile hemangiomas,\u201d highlighted the role of these cells in the natural regression of these common benign vascular tumors in infants. Her findings raise hopes for the development of targeted therapeutic strategies. <\/p>\n\n

A Collaborative and Multidisciplinary Research Project<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

This project is built on a strong collaboration with the Pediatric Dermatology and Pathology Department of Bordeaux University Hospital<\/a> (with the support of Marie-Laure Julli\u00e9<\/a>, Christine L\u00e9aut\u00e9-Labr\u00e8ze<\/a>, and Maya Loot<\/strong>), as well as with vascular biology experts at BRIC, such as Thomas Mathivet<\/a> (Team 1<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n

Translating fundamental discoveries into clinical applications is a central goal at BRIC, and this project is a perfect example of that translational approach. <\/p>\n\n

L\u00e9a Pechtimaldjian\u2019s research \u2014 at the crossroads of vascular biology, pediatric dermatology, and oncology \u2014 has received funding from several sources: The Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Council<\/a>, The French Society of Dermatology (SFD)<\/a>, The Society for Dermatological Research (SRD)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n
