The professor will be hosted at The BORDEAUX INSTITUTE OF ONCOLOGY (BRIC U1312, https://www.bricbordeaux.com/). The Inserm BRIC Unit is seeking to recruit a Senior scientist to develop innovative research programs on the physiopathology, biology and treatment of renal cancer.
Main objective is to structure translational sciences in renal cancer throughout the healthcare management, including oncogenesis, prevention, physiopathology and treatment. Potential course subjects include cancer biology, cell signaling, experimental models, molecular imaging, etc. as part of the Cancer biology international master and graduate programs and bachelor in life sciences.
BRIC is a newly established research unit in Bordeaux that is dedicated to cancer research. Its research program includes genetic and molecular oncogenesis, tumor heterogeneity and microenvironment, and defining the mechanisms of resistance. BRIC comprises 12 teams, with state-of-the-art core facilities available. To translate basic research findings, BRIC operates in close collaboration with clinical partners at the University Hospital of Bordeaux (CHU) and the Institut Bergonié cancer hospital.
Research & Innovation program on Kidney Cancer / I.CaRe
The candidate will benefit from strong clinical interactions with the Bordeaux Department of Urology (Pellegrin Hospital, Bordeaux University Hospital). Particularly invested in the management of renal tumors, the Department of Urology is at the origin of an ambitious dynamic of innovation. Structured around 4 axes (Diagnosis and tumor characterization; Prognosis and prediction; Innovative care pathways; and Improved minimally invasive surgery), the Integrated Research & Innovation program on Kidney Cancer (I.CaRe), coordinated by Pr Jean-Christophe Bernhard, integrates multiple multi-partner research projects. I.CaRe relies on the French Kidney Cancer Research Network UroCCR. Labeled by the French National Cancer Institute, this multidisciplinary collaborative national network (www.uroccr.fr), guarantees logistical expertise for the implementation of collaborative research projects.
Thanks to UroCCR, the candidate will thus benefit from the availability of numerous annotated clinical samples, a unique database interface and multiple clinical experts locally and at the national level (surgeons, anatomopathologists, medical oncologists, radiologists…).
Pr Jean-Christophe Bernhard (MD, PhD) is integrated in the BRIC Unit, as an emerging clinical research team which should be the initiation of a 12th team within the institute. This research position will ensure there is a continuum in kidney cancer research between BRIC and the Bordeaux University Hospital.
Bordeaux University hospital contributes to this research dynamics by providing expertise and work force from its clinical research department and an innovation department structure which will support the candidate in fund raising (call for projects) and transversal management of research activities between both structures.
The appointed Professor will initially benefit from a reduced teaching workload (64hrs annually) in order to promote the establishment of a productive research project. S/he will also be provided with a support package that includes salary (commensurate with previous experience, i.e. 2eme - 3eme echelon PR2C), appropriate office and lab space, as well as start-up funding.
Eligibility: Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree and a strong track record as principal investigator that includes teaching experience and is compatible with application for highly competitive funding.
