The XenoFish platform hosts a workshop for high-school students at a scientific symposium

In conjunction with the SFTCG-Société Française de Thérapie Cellulaire et Génique congress, held in Bordeaux from March 19 to 21, a dozen scientists welcomed around 50 high school students from Talence for workshops on discovering the biological sciences.

The programme includes :
Banana DNA extraction
Observation of zebrafish
Microscopic observation of nervous system slides
Pipetting experiment and confidence interval analysis
DNA analysis riddles
Discovery of the use of viruses for gene therapy

Sandrine Fédou and Géraldine Siegfried, from the XenoFish platform attached to our unit’s Team 2, were on hand to show zebrafish larvae at various stages of development under the microscope. They also explained to the students how this animal model is useful to the scientific community.

The communications department of our regional Inserm delegation was also on hand to present the different professions within Inserm’s units and administrations. The students were able to discover the beautiful conference room of the University of Bordeaux, the Agora du Haut Carré. Well done to SFTCG for organizing these moments of sharing with high school students. We hope they’ve sparked an interest in scientific careers!
