BRIC prestige seminar – Lionel LARUE

As part of the prestigious seminars organized by our BRIC unit, we are pleased to welcome Dr. Lionel Larue, Inserm Research Director Emeritus, and Dr. Véronique Delmas (CNRS Research Director) from the Chemistry and Modeling for Cancer Biology team (UMR9187 / U1196) at the Institut Curie.
We will take advantage of their visit to organize meetings with the researchers and students in our unit (see internal email)
Their research focused on the role of E-cadherin and β-catenin, as well as other cadherins (such as N- and R-cadherin), in embryonic development, using sophisticated genetically modified mouse models (knockout/knock-in, etc.), contributing to the study of the role of these proteins and their alterations in pathophysiology.
They have long been interested in the development of various tissues and cell types, including the mammary gland and melanocytes, and their team has made a name for itself particularly in the study of melanoma.
The seminar will be presented by Lionel Larue at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, in a hybrid format

“The CDH1-ESR1-GRPR axis defines a sex-specific metastatic pathways in cancer ”
Abstract:
Sex differences in cancer remain underexplored, limiting precision medicine. We show that premenopausal women are more susceptible to certain cancers and identify ECAD as a key mediator of estrogen response. In melanoma, an ECAD–βCAT–ERα–GRPR pathway drives female-specific tumor aggressiveness, while targeting GRPR or ERα reduces metastasis. These findings highlight hormone-dependent mechanisms in non-classical cancers and support sex-specific therapeutic strategies, including GPCR targeting.
