Léa Pechtimaldjian Honored for Her Work on Tumor Angiogenesis at the 2025 SFA Congress

From June 4 to 6, 2025, the 11th Congress of the French Society for Angiogenesis (SFA) took place in Autrans (Isère), bringing together researchers, clinicians, and PhD students to discuss the latest advances in vascular biology. On this occasion, Léa Pechtimaldjian, a third-year PhD candidate at BRIC, presented her thesis work — and was awarded Best Oral Presentation of the congress.

A Well-Deserved Distinction for a BRIC Doctoral Student

Under the supervision of François Moisan, Léa is part of Team 5: “Translational Research in Skin Cancer and Rare Skin Diseases” (TRIO2), co-led by Marie Beylot-Barry, Laurence Bresson-Bepoldin, and Hamid-Reza Rezvani. Her presentation, titled: “Telocytes: a novel actor in the regression of tumor vascularization in infantile hemangiomas,” highlighted the role of these cells in the natural regression of these common benign vascular tumors in infants. Her findings raise hopes for the development of targeted therapeutic strategies.

A Collaborative and Multidisciplinary Research Project

This project is built on a strong collaboration with the Pediatric Dermatology and Pathology Department of Bordeaux University Hospital (with the support of Marie-Laure Jullié, Christine Léauté-Labrèze, and Maya Loot), as well as with vascular biology experts at BRIC, such as Thomas Mathivet (Team 1).

Translating fundamental discoveries into clinical applications is a central goal at BRIC, and this project is a perfect example of that translational approach.

Supported by Prestigious Institutions

Léa Pechtimaldjian’s research — at the crossroads of vascular biology, pediatric dermatology, and oncology — has received funding from several sources: The Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Council, The French Society of Dermatology (SFD), The Society for Dermatological Research (SRD).

A Notable Recognition for a Promising Scientist

The award at the 2025 SFA Congress recognizes not only the scientific quality of her work but also her outstanding presentation skills, and the rigorous, impactful research she has carried out throughout her doctoral journey.

Congratulations, Léa!
